This Wall Didn't Need a Consultant.

This wall didn't need a consultant.

Walked downtown Houston at 5 this morning, reading the skyline like it was a mystery novel.

Who was the architect? Was there an elevator consultant on a tower that tall? Whose lights are already on at 5am on floor 40, and what are they cranking on?

Twelve years around the best elevator professionals will do that to you. So will a background in law, insurance, and real estate. You stop seeing buildings. You start seeing stakeholders and opportunities to solve pain.

Then I turned a corner and hit this wall.

No pro forma. No consultant. No committee. Somebody decided the side of a parking garage should say HOUSTON IS INSPIRED, and then made it true.

Parked right in front of the word inspired is a van tagged NON GRATA.

That is the whole thing, honestly. The unwelcome and the inspired sharing one frame.

I spend most of my time in the towers but the wall is a better teacher:

Not everything worth building gets underwritten first.
