From the Inside, It Was the Only Door That Wasn't on Fire.

September 18, 2026 · 1 min read

If you need to use my Uber account to get where you're going, you may want to reconsider throwing stones from that gaudy, ridiculous-looking glass house of yours.

I've been on both sides of this. Some of it comes from the market. More of it comes from people who have had dinner at my table.

There is a particular kind of confidence that only exists at a distance. It shows up in the comments, the chatter, or the group text. It is always articulate. It is always after the fact.

Here's what it misses: from the outside, the call looks like a choice among options. From the inside, it was the only door that wasn't on fire.

I have made decisions that read badly on paper and were right in the room. I have made decisions that read beautifully and cost people their jobs.

The critique never distinguishes between the two, because the critique has never had to.

Build something. Sign the guaranty. Make payroll in a month where the receivable doesn't land. Live a life someone could take apart if they wanted to.

Then tell me what I should have done. I'll actually listen because you'll be telling me something I can use.

Until then, mind the glass….or use your own Uber account.
