My feed has been busy calling I, Robot a prophecy.
Nobody says that about Armageddon. Same setup. A movie about a threat that could end all of us.
It is not that one is unlikely. Asteroids have hit this planet before and will again. And in 2022, NASA flew a spacecraft into one and moved it. An actual play, executed, on the exact threat the movie was about.
Armageddon still did not get called prophecy.
So it is not about whether somebody has a move. It is about whether you do. AI is in the feed this week because it looks like it might be yours. A rock does not give most of us anything to do on Thursday.
The risks that get discussed are the ones where we still believe we have a hand in it. The ones nobody brings up are not the small ones. They are the ones we have quietly decided are out of our hands.
I see it in diligence. The exposure was never hiding. It was filed under "nothing we can do."
I see it more often outside of work. The conversation we stopped starting. The friendship we let become a thing that used to be. The thing we quit mentioning because the answer was always the same.
I wrote a chapter last year about zooming out. Eight billion people on Earth and two hundred billion planets just in our galaxy. Against that scale, your worst quarter does not register.
I still believe it. But I have watched people use that same telescope to stop looking.
Zoom out on your ego. Zoom in on what you gave up on.
